Diabetes mellitus is a disease which is characterized by decreased blood sugar in the body; that is the body cannot regulate the amount of sugar in the blood. Glucose is very important to the person as glucose in the blood gives you energy to perform daily activities. In a healthy person, the blood glucose level is regulated by several hormones, including insulin. Insulin allows glucose to move from the blood into liver, muscle, and fat cells, where it is used as fuel for energy.
Until now it has been okay but in people with diabetes there is a decrease production of insulin or they cannot use insulin properly. Now the diabetes is divided into two main categories which are type 1 and type 2.
A Type 1 diabetic is defined as People with diabetes who do not produce
enough insulin.
• Type 1 diabetes comprises about 10% of total cases of diabetes
• Type 1 diabetes is typically recognized in childhood or
adolescence.
• People with type 1 diabetes require daily insulin treatment to
sustain life.
Causes of Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, Environmental factors, including common unavoidable viral infections lead to diabetics some times and it may also run in the families. Type 1 diabetes is slightly more common in men than in women.
Symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is usually recognized in childhood or early adolescence and it is mostly associated with infections, the most common symptoms include nausea and vomiting and also damage to blood levels of potassium and it may also lead to coma and death.
Medical treatment for type 1 diabetics is almost always involves the daily injection of insulin, usually a combination of short-acting insulin.
A type 2 Diabetes is defined as People with diabetes cannot make insulin properly
• A least 90% of patients with diabetes have type 2 diabetes
• Type 2 diabetes is typically recognized in adulthood
• Type 2 diabetes is usually controlled with diet and exercise.
Causes of Type 2 Diabetics
Type 2 diabetes is caused by many factors like High Blood Pressure, High Blood Triglyceride levels, High-fat diet, Obesity or being overweight and majority of Type 2 diabetics in the USA may be placed on cholesterol lowering drug.
Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes
People with type 2 diabetes can develop hyperglycaemic hyperosmolar nonketotic syndrome and it can also lead to complications like blindness, heart disease, and nerve damage.
Diabetes treatment
Diabetes can be treated in two ways, one by self care at home and secondly by medical treatment. Medical treatment should always be given by a doctor or physician.
Self treatment includes diet. Firstly a healthy diet is most important in controlling blood sugar levels and preventing diabetes complications. Secondly exercise - Regular exercise, in any form, can help reduce the risk of developing diabetes. Thirdly alcohol – Try to stop or decrease the alcohol intake which is very important in treatment of diabetes, as it cause low or high blood sugar levels. Fourthly smoking - Smoking damages blood vessels and contributes to heart disease, strokes, and poor circulation in the limbs. The final one is Yoga Exercise Posture - Yoga can also help alleviate diabetes. Some of the yoga exercise postures are Aalom,Vilom,Kapalbharti, Agnisar.
